Meet "Mavi," a 3-week-old elephant at Tampa Zoo
African elephant mother "Matjeka" selected the name "Mavi" for her female calf during a special enrichment in their outdoor habitat. Zoo keepers prepared two stacks of hay with produce and the two name choices spelled out in carrots. Mother Matjeka went straight for the pile labeled Mavi, declaring that name the winner. Mavi is a Swati name meaning voices.
