About the Talk
As next-generation technologies are being created, it is important to reflect and think through the benefits, risks, and impact these new experiences can have on people and societies. The conversations on this topic have been dominated by ethicists, policymakers, data scientists, and others.
In this talk, Arathi will describe why user experience professionals should be at the forefront of these conversations and offer a few additional techniques that you can start applying to create AI experiences with intention.
About the Speaker
Dr. Sethumadhavan leads a user research team for Microsoft’s Ethics and Society, that is focused on privacy and consent, fairness, inclusion, accountability, and transparency - as it relates to AI experiences. She works on AI across speech, computer vision, and mixed reality, and strives to bring the perspectives of a diverse set of direct and indirect stakeholders including traditionally disempowered communities to help shape product experiences. Arathi is also a Fellow at the World Economic Forum, where she is working on unlocking opportunities for positive impact with AI to address the needs of the aging population.
Prior to joining Microsoft, she worked on creating human-machine systems that enabled individuals to be effective in complex environments in aviation and healthcare. She wears many hats, including research leader, author, editor, and sometimes adjunct professor. She has been cited by the Economist and the American Psychological Association. Arathi has a PhD in Human Factors Psychology and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.
