A breakdown of the psychological and cinematography elements that help define The Shining. What seems like a dreamlike retreat ends up becoming the Torrence family's worst nightmare. Jack, Wendy, and Danny take care of the Overlook hotel. At the time this set was one of the largest ever constructed. Every detail was planned out before filming. AN intricately designed hotel mixed with expert cinematography captivated the cinema world. But the best component of the Shining is the psychology at play. Jack suffers from cabin fever. His boredom/restlessness eventually translated into anger. Understanding the impacts of a lack of social stimulation is so important. This film demonstrates the value of the outdoors and spending time with those we care about. Covid 19 put a lot of us in a similar situation to Jack. Going out during the virus' peak was dangerous so we all stayed inside. Many of us felt a similar sensation to the writer at certain points in time. A gnawing restlessness that eats away at our mental health. The Shining reminds us how important social resources are in our lives.
