Music IO is an incredible new release from an extremely talented group of developers. The app allows users to connect to their computers via Apple's usb to lighting/30 pin cable, and then transmit MIDI (and very soon, audio) between your Mac and your iDevice. No more wi-fi or bluetooth needed, and no more audio or midi hubs either.
In this demo we take a look at setting up the program on your Mac, followed by a quick run through of the iPad controlling Ableton Live's built in instruments, then reversing that and controlling FunkBox and iMini via an Ableton MIDI clip.
This is truly a remarkable app and it's simplicity belies the powerful nature of what this accomplishes. There can be a lot of hoops to jump through when attempting file sharing, recording, or trying to control a desktop program via MIDI. Music IO will change all of that.
***also note that when I use MD Pro to control Ableton, the small audio crackles are from a faulty audio cable of mine, not any app I'm using.
