The simply connected or universal covering space
In this video we look at the notion of the simply connected or universal covering space, which can be considered the topological analogue of the separable algebraic closure of a field. We see how this cover is universal in the sense that it gives other connected covers and has Galois group the fundamental group of the base space. We also show how to construct it when it exists.
