Even before the pandemic, the downtown Toronto portion of the Martin Goodman Trail (part of the extensive Waterfront Trail system) saw throngs of visitors and locals alike every sunny weekend. But now with the resurgence of cycling as a fitness activity and a distraction from our pandemic woes, this bidirectional trail has become even more crowded.
This is a 3-minute video showing my 9 km ride from Yonge St in the east to the Humber River in the west. I do not want to discourage people from coming down to the Harbourfront, but it does take a good measure of patience to safely and successfully navigate the teeming masses, not to mention good bike control technique. This video also shows, at least on this one afternoon in June, the number of cars vs pedestrians and cyclists. Seems like the city should close Lake Shore West more often?
