Anna Sheree - Mother Mary (Acoustic)
In this video, my wife, Anna, plays the guitar and sings a song she wrote about her mom who passed away one year ago.
Although Anna always loved her mother, the bond between them was strained from a very young age due in part to Mary's unstable relationships and the onset of mental illness. In the late 1990's, Mary was diagnosed with Leukemia. She battled the disease for almost 10 years. During this time, Mary's relationship with Anna grew cold at best.
Anna had by now become a mom herself and she was determined not to let her daughters experience the pain and rejection she received from her own mother. And while part of Anna wanted nothing to do with Mary, there was yet another side of her that deeply desired a mended relationship.
Thankfully, a few months before her passing away, Mary made an effort to meet and reconcile with not only Anna, but all four of her children.
By then, it was plain to see that mental illness and cancer had taken their toll on the once beautiful Mary Langston, but in those last months, her heart shone through and she fought to not only make peace with her children but to restore a sense of love and kinship.
