ORIGINAL SIDE REARVIEW MIRROR FOR THE MOSKVICH 2140. (MIRROR FOR VAZ 2105-2107)
What side rearview mirror was installed in the MOSKVICH 2140 with the windowless door?! This question was very important to me! After restoring the car, I spent a lot of time driving around cities, where the visibility from the rearview mirror located inside the car was sorely lacking. When changing lanes, I had to turn my head 360 degrees, which is distracting and naturally increases the risk of getting into an accident. Modern side rearview mirror options didn't suit me for several reasons:
Appearance. Modern mirrors looked ridiculous on the old car, and this also applies to the size of the mirrors themselves; they were too big (like a CHEBURASHKA).
The mounting method for the side mirror. The door of the MOSKVICH 2140 has a special corner for mirror mounting. Cutting holes in the door for mirrors is a bad idea! Modern side mirrors are attached with clips (which can damage the paintwork).
When I started searching for information about mirrors, I first looked at the MOSKVICH 2140 SPARE PARTS CATALOG. Unfortunately, it listed mirrors with a different mounting system (door with a window, without a corner for the mirror mount). So I decided to look in the MOSKVICH 2140 SL parts catalog. And there I found the answer to my question. The side mirror listed in the catalog is very similar to the mirror for the VAZ 2105 and 2107 (since we have a VAZ 2107 in our family, I was able to easily identify the origin of these mirrors).
After purchasing VAZ 2105-07 mirrors online for a relatively low price, I ran into trouble fitting the mirrors to the brackets they were attached to. The corners of the VAZ 2105 and 2107 side mirrors had slightly different designs (covers). So, I solved the problem by making a homemade corner (cover). This video explains in detail how to make this mirror corner. With a minimal amount of materials and a couple of hours of free time, you can make a very reliable mount for the side rearview mirrors of a Moskvich 2140. All the details are also explained. At the very end of the video, there's a photo of the ORIGINAL side rearview mirrors manufactured by the foreign company NAKOTNE (Latvia). These mirrors also came with the corners needed to replace the caps. However, finding mirrors from NAKOTNE these days is problematic. Side mirrors from a VAZ 2105 or VAZ 2107 are quite easy to find, no matter what part of the country you live in. Most importantly, these VAZ mirrors are a perfect match for the MOSKVICH 2140.
