What Macroinvertebrates Can Show Us About Water Quality
What lives in local rivers, streams, wetlands and ponds can serve as indicators of the health of these bodies of water! Macroinvertebrates are the bugs (like dragonfly nymphs), crustaceans (like snails) and worms that live in the water. Generally, the more diverse the macroinvertebrates are, the higher quality the water!
The Conservation Foundation provides staffing and expertise to three local watershed groups: the DuPage River Salt Creek Workgroup, the Lower Des Plaines Watershed Group, and the Lower DuPage River Watershed Coalition. Together, we work to improve the heath of rivers and streams in Northeastern Illinois.
