Atomic Structure - 05 | B.Sc Chemistry | Effective Nuclear Charge | Shielding or Screening Effect
Shielding effect is present in all multi-electron atoms except for hydrogen (H).
Effective nuclear charge increases as you move across a period (left to right) due to increasing atomic number (Z).
Within a group (top to bottom), shielding increases due to more electron shells, but Zeff might not increase significantly due to increasing distance from the nucleus.
