I love percentage tricks as much as the next guy (probably more!) but the whole "your teacher never taught you this" framing almost certainly isn't true. Percentage tricks are usually just applications of commutativity and associativity, with a dash of clever-ness thrown in.

In this case, we can both re-arrange several of our terms (taking advantage of commutativity) and re-group several of our terms (taking advantage of associativity). In so doing, we can simplify the problem considerably, and figure out that 84% of 76 is the same as 19% of 336.
