Did you know that one of the peculiarities of Spanish etiquette is the lack of a clear distinction between formal and informal communication. The word "Hola" itself means both "hello" and "hello."
It's customary to address almost everyone informally, even with superiors and older people. The formal "you" is used when the age difference is very large (40 years or more), as well as in formal correspondence.
