Quincke's edema or angioedema is an acute allergic reaction of the human body to allergens, infectious and autoimmune diseases. The condition is named for the German physician Heinrich Quincke, who first described it in 1882.
Most often, Quincke's edema develops on the face, neck and upper body, the back of the hands and feet. Pathology is characterized by acute development. The main problem of such conditions is the risk of asphyxiation against the background of tracheal compression in every third case.

Typical symptoms are acute edema of the tissues of the face, neck, back of the hands and feet. In the area of edema, the skin is pale. The developed edema disappears without a trace within a few hours or days. However, the most dangerous form is swelling of the pharynx, larynx, trachea. Such patients suddenly have anxiety, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness and death from suffocation is possible.
At the slightest suspicion of the development of Quincke's edema, an ambulance should be called immediately. The situation can change in a matter of seconds and the slightest delay is dangerous for the patient's life. With allergic angioedema, glucocorticoids, antihistamines are administered, infusion therapy, enterosorption are performed. In severe laryngeal edema, it is important to restore airway patency, including by tracheal intubation or conicotomy.
