✨CONNECTED SPEECH: WEAK FORMS ✨ In English some words are pronounced differently in a strech of speech than in isolation. Your dictionary gives you the pronunciation of words in isolation. For instance, FOR and IS are pronounced /fɔː/ and /ɪz/ respectively, but in a sentence they are usually pronounced /fə/ and /z/ unless there is a good reason for them not to (added emphasis, contrast) etc. This alternative pronunciation is called weak forms and is essential to fluency.
