What do you think holds more SEO power, subdirectories or subdomains?

There’s not a single answer because they have both pros and cons depending on what you want to accomplish.

That’s why website structure is so important!

Traditionally, subdirectories tend to hold more SEO power, but if you want to have different lead-gens under a single brand but treat them as separate sites, subdomains is the way to go.

A subdomain will inherit the authority of the root domain over time, making it rank faster.

In this video learn why I prefer subdomains over subdirectories for lead gen sites and discover how to structure your site for maximum performance.

In episode 494 of our weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one viewer asked if subdirectories are better than subdomains.

The exact question was:

In the last hangout, I see you are using subdomains, instead of sub-directories on felling.pro. For ex: countyname.felling.pro. Aren't subdirs ""stronger""? Or is this for client sites only? For a directory site like treecarehq I assume subdirs are better?
