Sjaella - evening morning day (David Lang)
'evening morning day' leads us out of aethereal regions into existence. It is clear that David Lang has been greatly influenced here and in many other compositions by the minimal music of the 1960s. His intention here was to capture the creation story in music without emphasising any religion in particular; this led him to choose only the most important words from the first chapter of Genesis as his text, as he considers them to be the primeval substance that is the basis of today’s world.
