Rear Glass Liftgate Strut Replacement for the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
This video is about replacing the Rear Glass Liftgate Struts to aid in lifting the back hatch. There are multiple names people refer to to descripe the rear liftgate; Liftgate, Rear Glass Hatch, Rear Hardtop Window or Glass, Rear Back Liftgate Tailgate, Rear Hatch LiftGate, Glass Liftgate.
The struts are the lifting mechanism to aid in both holding up and lowering the back glass liftgate. These are also referred to as shocks or pistons by many.
There are multiple options for you to purchase including OEM Mopar struts. We used a brand called ARANA found on Amazon. Due to a variety of options and fitments depending on your vehicle, this video is illustrating the mechanics of removing or installing these struts. This process is very similar.
As a safety note - You are working around glass, please be aware of the risks if glass breaks. Wear hand protection and safety glasses. When using a tool such as a flat head screwdriver, alway pry the spring clip away from your hands and body to avoid injury. Never pry up the spring clip in the direction of others. When struts are removed, the glass liftgate is heavy and can swing down without resistance. Always seek professional help.
You will note that for different model Jeep Wranglers, there are different bracket styles and lift gate ball studs which attach to the glass or hardtop base. Please check fitment for your model vehicle.
