Common Periwinkles | In The Field
The common periwinkle is much tougher then they appear. They are an aquatic ocean snail that lives in the intertidal zone of temperate waters. They have many adaptations to survive desiccation when out of the water for long periods of time. This includes hiding in tidal pools, the cracks in-between rocks or under seaweed, as well as closing off their shell with their operculum. In today’s video we are in the field examining periwinkles along the North Atlantic coast.
