What is DJI Flysafe and its Unlock Zones? Is Unlocking a Geo Zone the same as getting an FAA Authorization? In this video, I go over the differences between getting an FAA authorization and Flysafe Unlocking geo zones on DJI aircraft.
I have seen a lot of confusion where drone operators get an FAA authorization, but can't fly their drone because they are trying to operate from a DJI 'Restricted' area and did not unlock the geo fencing on the drone.
On the flip side, I have also heard people say that they were allowed to fly in controlled airspace without FAA authorization because the drone would let them take off. This is because they are operating in a DJI 'Authorization' zone where you can self-unlock through the DJI flight app. Just because you can self-unlock and take off does not mean you have FAA authorization to fly in a specific area (meaning you still need to file for it through LAANC or FAA DroneZone).
We attempt to clear up some of the confusion in this video, as well as cover a couple of ways to unlock DJI Geo Fencing through the DJI Flysafe website.
