In this video we go over 5 essential tips that new drone owners should know before they take to the skies:
1. In order to safely operate a drone, it's important to ensure that the firmware is up to date on the aircraft, remote controller, flight apps, and even the drone batteries.
2. Additionally, if your drone weighs more than 0.55 lbs or 250 grams, it must be registered with the FAA via their Drone Zone website.
3. All drone operators are also required to follow Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, including flying below 400 feet and staying away from airports and another FAA-controlled or restricted airspace.
4. The FAA also requires all recreational pilots to complete their TRUST Test, which is a free online test aimed at educating recreational drone pilots on the safe and responsible operation of drones in the National Airspace.
5. If you want to make money with your drone, you will need to pass the FAA Part 107 knowledge exam, which covers similar topics to what a private pilot exam would cover, including FAA regulations, weather, airspace, airport operations, and emergency procedures.
