Accident between car and bus - Car driver dies after traffic accident in Kreuztal-Buschhütten
On Friday evening (February 10, 2023), at approximately 8:35 p.m., a serious traffic accident occurred on Siegener Straße. A 64-year-old car driver suffered fatal injuries.
The 64-year-old was driving his Ford Fusion on Siegener Straße toward Kreuztal. Near the Langenauer Bridge, the car veered left out of its lane at the end of a long straight stretch, transitioning into a left-hand bend, and crashed head-on into an oncoming public bus. According to initial findings, the bus was carrying three passengers (aged 15, 19, and 30).
The 64-year-old suffered fatal injuries in the collision, and immediate resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The 49-year-old bus driver suffered shock and was treated at the scene by paramedics. The other bus passengers remained uninjured.
Police estimate the total property damage at approximately €25,000. Siegener Straße was completely closed while the accident was being investigated and the vehicles were recovered.
The traffic police department has taken over the case. The 64-year-old's car and his body have been impounded. The reason why the Ford driver crossed into the oncoming lane is currently under investigation.
