Raising chickens is a wonderful hobby, with the side benefit of “free” eggs. We love our birds and think all the expense and maintenance is completely worth it.
However!!! It’s not for everyone. Before you build a coop and get a bunch of birds, you should know what goes into feeding and caring for these beautiful animals. Don’t get chickens if you don’t have the time or inclination to care for them. This video talks about how much work you should expect on a daily and weekly basis. BTW, chickens are social animals so they need companionship of other birds, and I think they like people too! Expect to spend time just hanging out with them!
