It's one of our all-time heroes' birth-week so the internet jazz-o-sphere is celebrating the music of Mr. Herbert Jeffrey Hancock. One of his most delightfully exciting and confounding tunes is "The Sorcerer," the title track from my favorite Miles Davis album (well, tied for favorite with E.S.P.) and I've been trying to make sense of this composition for years.
