THE CHARM OF SAMARINDA CITY | BUFFERING CITY FOR INDONESIA'S NEW CAPITAL IN KALIMANTAN
Samarinda City is the capital of East Kalimantan province and the most populous city on the island of Kalimantan, with a population of 812,597. Samarinda covers an area of 718 km², with hilly terrain varying in elevation from 10 to 200 meters above sea level. Samarinda City is bisected by the Mahakam River and serves as a gateway to the interior of East Kalimantan via river, land, and air routes.
Samarinda City is entirely surrounded by Kutai Kartanegara Regency, which is the chosen location for the new national capital, along with Penajam Paser Utara Regency.
Samarinda City will also serve as a buffer city for the new Indonesian capital.
