Nowadays, planning a trip is not easy. In order to get good campsites, you usually have to book sites way in advance. When problems come up or the weather is not cooperating, it's not easy to change things on the cuff. Our 1600 mile, 6 campground trip got thrown completely out of whack because of unexpected problems... some of which hit our wallet pretty good.
The first leg of our trip to Mt. Airy, NC (Mayberry) was no exception. The day we were supposed to tour Mayberry, it poured. The night before we left, tornado warnings were everywhere, and our camper was shaking violently. The next day, the winds were horrific.
However, we managed to adapt, and the stay at the Mayberry Campground was nice. We managed to take in some sights, and learned some things we didn't know on previous trips.
