Hysteria
Hysteria is an old term in psychology but it is actually now called Conversion Disorder. Hysteria, word origin comes from the word 'Hystra' which means 'Uterus'.
Only women have a uterus, right? Also, this disease mostly caused only to women (that’s how the term was created).
Basically, what is hysteria aka conversion disorder?
An interesting thing about conversion disorder is some part of your body becomes paralyzed or stops working, even though there is no actual physical dysfunction.
So you can see... Psychological problems converted into physical problems and that’s why we call it conversion disorder.
Eg., Sudden Blindness even though there is no wrong with your eyes
Inability to hear even though there is no wrong in your ears
Inability to walk even though there is no wrong with your legs and knees
Inability to use your arms or fingers
Inability to talk even though there is no wrong with your biological speech function
