On March 21, 2022 an EF-3 tornado hit Jacksboro damaging hundreds of homes, businesses and schools. The North Texas Conference jumped into action, forming the Long-Term Recovery Team to aid in the rebuilding of the town. Thanks to a $1.4 million grant from UMCOR, donations and volunteers from the NTC and the work of countless people the project -- Close to Home -- recently came to an end with a Dedication Service at First UMC Jacksboro that included celebrating the completion of five home builds. "What makes this particular recovery effort so special is that all the necessary and needed partners came to the table," said Jeremy Basset, the NTC Disaster Response Coordinator. "Sometimes it's the faith community, sometimes it's the government side, sometimes it's a little bit of either. This time it was everybody."
