I was inspired to shoot this quick video after a coaching call I had with one of my clients. I noticed her website speed was incredibly slow, so I dug in a bit further using free tools online. I immediately noticed that her images were not compressed, optimized and lazy loaded which was negatively affecting her website speed (and also her SEO). I immediately recommended that she install a plugin called Smush which offers both a Free and Pro version and we were able to shave off over 10 seconds of loading speed right away.

IMPROVE YOUR WEBSITE SPEED WITH SMUSH
This plugin should help you speed up your WordPress website in a matter of minutes.
1.) FIRST TEST YOUR WEBSITE SPEED (Before)
I recommend using https://gtmetrix.com/ to test your website speed first to get a baseline of where you’re at. This may also provide you with additional insight as to what other areas you can improve upon to speed up your WordPress website. You can also use Google’s PageSpeed Insights here to get a benchmark of your WordPress website’s speed: https://developers.google.com/speed/p...
2.) NEXT INSTALL THE SMUSH PLUGIN FOR WORDPRESS
Next you will want to install Smush for your WordPress website. They will take you through a quick set up process and you can choose to run a “Bulk Smush”. Once all of your images are optimized and compressed, you should notice an immediate difference in your loading speed. Even when you’re just manually navigating and spot checking your website.
3.) LASTLY, RE-TEST YOUR WEBSITE SPEED (After)
Use https://gtmetrix.com/ once again to test your website speed and see if installing Smush and compressing your images have made a difference. If you originally had a bunch of images on your blog/website that were not compressed, this should result in a big improvement in website speed. This will also have a positive impact on your SEO as Google would much rather rank a website that is fast loading compared to one that is sluggish (strictly from a user-experience perspective).
WRAPPING UP:
There are many other methods and plugins to speed up your WordPress website outside of just Smush, however I think this is a good starting point for many beginner bloggers. There’s been a few examples that I’ve seen personally where this has dramatically helped speed up certain websites and improved their SEO as well!
