George Floyd Protesters Block Freeway On/Off Ramp San Francisco
A mob of angry yet peaceful demonstrators blocked the Octavia Highway 101 on and off ramps Friday night. The police were very restrained, in fact, quite a bit chill considering the intense rage being directed at them.
You see we have a rich tradition of street protesting here in San Francisco. Our riot cops have lots of experience, and there seems to be an understanding. As long as there's no violence, the protesters can generally say whatever and go wherever they want, and the police will not attack. Instead, they lead the march, and follow up behind, for the safety of the protesters as well as the city. Yes you can thank us gay old relics from the AIDS era for working that out.
There were plenty more riot cops in gear off camera, but they mainly kept a cordial distance and stood around, as if just hanging out. No tanks, water canons, rubber bullets, assault weapons. We don't believe in that type of police militarization here in the city of Saint Francis. There was even a protective metal barricade fence placed behind the protesters.
I stayed only three or four minutes, but it appeared the police strategy was to just wait out the protesters. Certainly safer than what we've been seeing in other cities on the news and social media.
