There are various methods to create yarn pom poms; this video tutorial utilizes the method of two cardboard discs. I re-purposed the cardboard sides of a roll of ribbon. If you do not have this available, just utilize a cereal box (or any sturdy piece of cardboard), trace something circular and cut out 2 circular shaped cardboard pieces. Then just cut a hole in the middle.
