The Better Control Scheme for Ikari Warriors in MAME
Hello there Radiant Stars and fellow warriors! Razzle Joestar here bringing you another MAME Tutorial - this time we're taking at Ikari Warriors and how to get the controls set up for the game.
This one's different from what we've seen so far. For the most part, it's been checking the right boxes and deciding on a controller and mapping things appropriately. Here, things might not be quite so straightforward.
The main source of pain seems to be that the original Ikari Warriors arcade cabinet used a "rotary joystick" - basically, a joystick that you could not only move in 8 ways, but rotate as well. Unfortunately, rotating joysticks aren't a feature on most controllers or arcade sticks, so we'll have to get a little creative.
I'll also go over not just how to set up the controls, but also how to tweak them further so you can get the setting that works juuuuust right for you. As usual, I'll be going over my preferred setup - keyboard and mouse - as well as a couple other alternate control types and how they could work.
