📌 Start with NEEDS, not the video! Learn how to launch your Component 1 with clarity and purpose.

Are you renewing your National Board Certification? Don’t skip ahead to the video just yet — the MOC process begins with Component 1, and it's critical to start with a strong foundation by identifying the context and needs behind your Professional Growth Experiences (PGEs).

In this video, Tracey walks you through:
✅ The first 2 questions of Component 1
✅ How to clearly define context and needs
✅ The difference between “providing context” and “identifying needs”
✅ How to structure your writing to guide your assessor
✅ Why you must lead with needs — not district mandates or trends
✅ How this all ties back to the MOC rubric and the Five Core Propositions

This section of Component 1 typically takes up just half a page, but it sets the tone for your entire portfolio.

Question 1: Provide a context of the professional situation that indicates what relevant need(s) of students, the professional community, parents/guardians, and/or yourself you are addressing with your PGE.

Question 2: Identify your PGE (e.g., provide a title), describe your PGE, and explain how your PGE demonstrates a response to the identified need(s).
