DIY Dead Pedal Mod
In an endurance race things can get uncomfortable very quickly if you have to hover over your brake. Thankfully most racing cars and sims have a stiff pedal so you can apply a little light pressure without dragging the brakes, however that is hardly comfortable now is it? This little mod for an 8020 rig aims to help by giving us some space for our foot outside of the usual 3 pedals.
Dead Pedal
What exactly is a dead pedal? It is the name for the pedal shaped footrest that usually occupies the space to the left of the clutch in a motor car. Sometimes they’re called a clutch footrest but dead pedal sounds a little more dramatic doesn’t it?
Parts List
We need a face for our pedal and for this I’ve purchased an aftermarket Range Rover Sport unit. You can go as fancy or simple as you like with this but remember you need to attach it to some aluminum profile, so something with holes in the center for mounting or as with the one I’ve purchased adhesive tape.
I have pretty large feet so a length of 300mm of 4040 T slot profile and then something to mount it to your rig. Here I’m using a profile hinge with a quick release and this makes it both easier to mount and gives you an ability to adjust the angle of your pedal for comfort.

You can source your parts more cost effectively and I had a few of these laying around the house which kept the price down.
