Two crashed Hondas. One bike Honda never built.
In this first episode, I’m starting the process of turning a CRF300L and a CB500X Into a CRF500L. A friend sold me his crashed CRF300L and I purchased a 2014 CB500X which has also been in a minor crash, both were picked up for cheap. I plan to combine the lightweight CRF chassis with the CB500X’s 500cc parallel-twin to build the ultimate mid-weight dual sport.
This video kicks off the build by breaking down the plan, beginning the teardown as the engine swap officially begins. There’s a long road ahead, fabrication, engine fitment, wiring, and final touches, but this is where it all starts. I know many people might be against a swap like this as there is already a CRF450L you can buy and many other options on the market but I love building stuff especially when an opportunity like this comes my way. My only want with this project is to have a fuel efficient, reliable, smooth, powerful, lightweight dual sport I can keep for years. Eventually selling my KLX300 once it is all finished. It may not be perfect but it will be mine and something I was able to create in my own shop. That alone makes it more priceless to me than buying something off the showroom floor. Thanks for watching and stick around for the coming episodes.
