Dot convention in coupled circuits:
This video tutorial talks in short about the general dot convention used in day to day circuits. Dot convention is mostly found in circuits where coupled systems occur.
dot convention helps us determine the direction of winding of the coil and thereby makes it possible for us to find out the actual polarity of the mutually induced emf (of course all these takes place due to the phenomenon of mutual induction).
The potential of the mutually induced emf in one coil and its direction is determined by the direction and magnitude of the current in the other coil (linked magnetically). The side where current enters is taken positive and the direction is correspondingly marked with a voltage source on the side of the other coil. Similarly, after all directions are marked, and all valued found out, necessary analysis techniques can be used to solve for the circuit. This is how we solve a coupling circuit when given with a magnetic linkage.
