In this video, I walk you through how to use the Garmin Fenix 7 and Epix Gen 2 for outdoor navigation. I cover everything from creating a custom course on Garmin Connect to adding waypoints in Garmin Explore, syncing to the watch, and using it all on the trail. Even though Garmin splits functionality across two platforms—Connect for courses and Explorer for waypoints—I’ll show you how to make them work together effectively.

I start with planning a hike on the Garmin Connect web interface, drawing out a custom course with course points like rest areas or summits. Then I bring in Garmin Explore to create and sync waypoints, which show up as saved locations on the watch. I go into detail about how to tweak the navigation and hike settings on the Fenix or Epix, like alerts, ClimbPro, routing preferences, and display options.

Out on the trail, I demonstrate how the watch guides you with cues for turns, climbs, course points, and proximity alerts to waypoints. I also show how to track back using the “Back to Start” feature or by simply following your breadcrumb trail on the map. Lastly, I walk through how to review your hike after syncing, showing how data is split between Connect and Explore.

If you’re looking to make the most of your Garmin Fenix 7 or Epix Gen 2 for hiking, this guide gives you the essential tools and tips to plan, navigate, and review your outdoor adventures.
