The Mondeo was introduced in 1993, and despite being a modern, comfortable, and well-designed car, it lacked the sporty spirit of the previous Sierra. So Ford, with the help of Cosworth, decided to enter the BTCC with a V6 engine variant that resulted in one of the most advanced supertouring cars ever to win: million-dollar budgets, Prodrive, and Nigel Mansell included.
