In this video, I'm teaching you how to use images to extrude and create abstract illustrations in SideFX Houdini.
In this SideFX Houdini tutorial I use an image to drive a polyextrude node, by first converting bitmaps to color data and an attribute wrangle to write that color data to the extrusion distance scale. Afterwards I use another color node to apply a gradient over the entire 3D model. Using a Redshift material and a domelight + 1 single directional light source with volumetric fog - we can create a procedural setup that can generate tons of abstract 3D illustrations by just swapping out the extrusion bitmap.
