Sermon by Grant Hickman
The Gospel Of John
Is God on my side? Is he truly for me, with me, committed to my good? This can be hard to believe when we’re lonely or exhausted, wrestling with anxiety or depression, grappling with illness, betrayal, or broken dreams. Yet Jesus reveals a God who is more on our side than we ever dared dream.
In this study on the Gospel of John, we’ll discover a Creator who enters onto our side in creation, a Savior who enters into our place on the cross, and a Redeemer who encounters us in our disappointment, discouragement and depression, our exhaustion and our wounds, to draw us close and pull us into life with him forever.
Along the way, each week we’ll uncover an Old Testament backdrop to the scene in John’s gospel which provides an “aha!” clue to the power who Jesus is for us today. We’ll also nuance the idea of God being on our side, dealing with how he confronts and challenges the ways we live against his kingdom, while still being committed to our good. Each chapter will also provide a down-to-earth practice for you to grow in your confidence that God is on your side and live into the more abundant life he has for you.
We exist to inspire people to know, love, and follow Jesus.
