WHAT IS A DDOS ATTACK?
It is a hacker attack on a computer system with the aim of causing it to fail, that is, creating conditions in which legitimate users of the system cannot access the system resources (servers) provided, or this access is hindered. Typically, attackers generate a large number of packets or requests, which ultimately overload the target system. To carry out a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, an attacker uses multiple compromised or controlled sources.

Generally, DDoS attacks can be divided into types depending on the layer of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model at which the attack occurs. Attacks at the network layer (layer 3), transport layer (layer 4), presentation layer (layer 6), and application layer (layer 7) are the most common.

To protect against network attacks, a series of filters connected to a high-bandwidth internet channel are used. These filters sequentially analyze passing traffic, identifying unusual network activity and errors. The analyzed unusual traffic patterns include all currently known attack methods, including those carried out using distributed botnets. Filters can be implemented at the router level, managed switches, or specialized hardware.
