Based on my old blog post from 2013, I decided to make this video tutorial just to refresh and share my old research:
http://blendersushi.blogspot.com.au/2...

The tutorial is about making 360 Panorama Viewer Desktop App using Blender Game Engine (BGE). It's simple and basic, but should give a foundation of BGE.

Very simple step by step requirements:
1. Provide a Sphere Polygon Geometry with a good UV - avoid pole vector stretching issue --- just get sphere from Sketchfab FAB KZO
2. Apply equirectangular texture as UV into Material of the Sphere
3. Setup the necessary interaction using Blender Game Engine (BGE), we will use Python script.
4. Test it and publish it.

I sources few things for this video tutorial

1. FABKZO blog post on panorama :
http://fabkzo.com/panoramiques
https://sketchfab.com/models/aa6df86b...

2. Ultimate Mouse LookAt Control script for BGE for our 360 camera viewer:
https://blenderartists.org/forum/show...

IMPORTANT
BGE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DOME does not support texture yet, hence we need the dome
Material texture for the Sphere Dome: set to Shadeless
Camera Field of View, around 22 mm for human eyes
Normal of the Spherical Geo - Flip Normal - Backfacing ON OFF or use both, SEE Backface Culling under Material settings and Display Panel Settings
Camera mouse control needs Python script
Exporting out as app
Stereoscopic mode is possible
60 fps? 24 fps?

It's been few years since that blog post, and today we have:
YouTube 360, Facebook 360 viewer, LIVE360
Ricoh Theta and other 360 camera
Occulus Rift, VR Goggles, etc

All cool stuffs are presently available (if you have access to those gears), but I will look into Blender Game Engine and will explore what we can do today with 360 and BGE.

I guess I also need to update myself and catching up with Blender Game Engine capability and its place in VR world. Maybe there are still plenty of Works In Progress (WIP) by Blender developers regarding BGE, however, maybe a lot of BGE has been improved as well that enable us to create game in BGE.

Anyways, hopefully this video is useful. Thanks
