Quilted Hope by Kamille Padgitt
Kamille was asked to cite her poetic piece "Quilted Hope" at Barnes and Noble at the Lincoln Park Store located at 7700 West Northwest Highway, Suite 300, Dallas, Texas 75225. Barnes & Noble has partnered with Kamille's middle school, Henry W. Longfellow Academy to host a Bookfair to raise funds. Kamille has also written several poetic pieces in the past. Her poem “Don’t Worry Be Happy!” was placed in the 2016 “Express Yourself Youth Poetry Competition Anthology.” The event was sponsored by the Dallas Public Library and the Dallas Foundation. Kamille was among 60 finalists who read their poem at the J. Erik Johsson Central Library luncheon last year.

Will it make a difference
Will this even make a dent.
Will these words that I speak to you
now even make an
impression on your thoughts
of oppression.
Will it worsen or will it lessen these
acts that cause depression.
Let me make a compression.
Let me compact this issue so that it can
possibly strengthen,
The holes in society,
caused by Racism,
Discrimination,
Sexism,
and Sexualism.
Come on people,
We should all be equal.
Why should the tone of my skin,
determine the neighborhood I should be in.
Why should my feminine body features
Determine my income or whether I can perform
simple procedures.
Why should it matter who I love or who I hate.
At the end of the day, we all share the same fate.
No one is immortal, so why spend all your days
relentlessly causing the oppression that has drawn
this country apart.
What does the U. S. A. stand for?....
A question that many of us already know the answer to
“The United States of America”
Key word being “United,”
So tell me people, why are we constantly
being divided?
I want this cinder to be ignited.
Ignited into a fire of posssibilities for this
country's future.
Where there is a will,
there is a way.
Where there is a mind,
There is a thought.
Where there is a thought,
There is an idea.
And my idea is to be a sewing machine
that contributes atleast one thread
of hope to bring this world together.
