Will Walmart Sweet Potatoes Sprout?
After some research online, it says that Walmart sweet potatoes are sprayed to inhibit sprouting. So your best bet is to buy organic potatoes from Farmer Joe's or an Asian market for best results.
I bought a 3-lb bag of sweet potatoes from Walmart for $4. See attached video for results.
The greens (slips) can be eaten, but in order to grow more sweet potatoes (tubers), you need to cut the slips and replant them to reproduce. I'm experimenting and since sweet potatoes are tropical, I'm hoping I have enough time to grow tubers, but if not, the greens or slips are quite edible.
