How Elon Musk KILLED Twitter In 2 Months?

We have witnessed some drastic shifts in Twitter ever since Elon Musk took over. But were we expecting a complete overhaul? Not so much! In fact, if we take a deeper look, then the old twitter would be lying in a coffin somewhere. But how did it come to this point? And what steps led twitter to its current form? Let’s discuss a few ways how Elon Musk killed the old twitter!
Twitter Culture is Dead
I know that many of us think that Twitter culture was already biased to begin with, for example, it had more ‘blue’ than ‘red’ inclinations and preferences. It supported some view points more than other and in some countries, it was subjected to government instructions and propaganda. Well, but what could be a solution to such a situation? Shouldn’t they have established a team to remove any biases in the algorithm. Yes, there was even racist bias in twitter algorithms. For one example, it showed more white faces than coloured in its image crop feature. So, twitter hired a team to solve these biases. And the team was called META, short for Machine Learning Ethics, Transparency and Accountability. The head of this team was responsible for ensuring that there would be no bias in Twitter’s AI based programs and algorithms.
When Elon Musk came, he wiped out META along with thousands of other employees. As a result of the lay-offs, twitter does not have a supervising team to manage and minimise biases. In fact, we have seen and you can check out our video on how Elon Musk has been promoting his own tweets. These tweets are also his viewpoints and ideologies. The point I am trying to make here is that replacing a few biases with new ones is not how you solve problems. Especially, when you no longer have a team to take care of these everyday biases.
Transparency Killed
Another thing that Elon has brought with him is his own method. Some would say that it’s madness. Well, even if there is method to his madness, his employees surely don’t see how it works. Employees from twitter have reported a damaged work culture from within twitter. One employee told Business Insider that Elon has just killed the mission of twitter. There is no transparency anymore. He said that:
You could look at our former head of engineering's calendar and see where he was having lunch that day. Documents were usually open and viewable. With a project, you could see who initiated the work, who was the assignee, who was in the chain of command.
That's all gone now. I can't find the information that I need to see about the projects that I'm working on. Documents are locked. Permissions are closed.
The old twitter’s senior leadership has been replaced by people from Tesla and Elon’s Boring Company, shockingly these people are registered as software engineers. It seems that Elon has surrounded himself with his own people, created a toxic yes-man culture and the rest of the world is just in awe of his celebrity. Things don’t add up! They seem unsettling when you think about the future of the platform and what kind of culture is being nurtured by Musk’s team.
