Does North Korea have a Diaspora??
Does North Korea have a diaspora? North Korea is surely a nightmarish and ghastly invention of mankind, and yet if it's so terrible, shouldn't millions of their citizens be attempting to flee abroad or escape to the South? Well, historically they did and there was a massive underground in East and Southeast Asia dedicated to moving North Korean refugees and defectors through China and into friendly countries where they could be repatriated to either South Korea or some other country that isn't too terrible, but nowadays these routes have almost completely dried up as the Communist authorities in the region have harshly cracked down on these routes and the smugglers who take them.
Even escaping North Korea has it's challenges as the road to freedom is plagued by natural dangers, human traffickers and other perilous obstacles and even life in South Korea is not guaranteed to be what it's all cracked up to be as North Koreans who make it to South Korea are often victims of intense xenophobia (ironically).
