Porsche 911 Damper Upgrade DIY (1965-1989 Vintage Air-Cooled Porsche 3.2 Carrera, SC, 930)
►The air-cooled 911's struts and shocks are quite different than what you'll find in contemporary cars, and up until recently, upgrades have been pretty scarce. Bilstein's various offerings have always been the go-to, as the next best options are coilovers that require different suspension arms at each corner. However, KW's release of the Variant 3 dampers meant for the pre-964 911s like the 3.2 Carrera has changed the game as owners can now fine-tune their ride more than ever.
KW's Variant 3 is a common sight on many European sports cars with aftermarket coilovers. The independently adjustable compression and rebound settings, along with the stainless steel bodies and the company's great service, have made them the first choice of many. While they come without springs, the V3 dampers for the air-cooled 911 allow owners to get the most out of the easily interchangeable torsion bar springs.
In this video, Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro's Professional DIYer, replaces the struts and shocks on a Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera with a set of KW V3 dampers.
