This talk addresses the business and technical challenges of bringing to market a complex microservice architecture suitable to meet the very different needs of multiple distribution parties in the insurance industry. Business process orchestration is at the core of a distributed platform built around reactive services and Kafka streams with the goal to offer greater scalability and customisation options from a single code base. The openness and extensibility of the Camunda platform allowed the development of a fully non-blocking service orchestrator to easily integrate a large catalogue of async services and Kafka event handlers in just about any desired configuration, while providing extensive monitoring and real-time tracing capabilities. We'll share with the audience some of the guiding principles, technical insights and lessons learned during this rewarding journey.
