Best way to go on a food tour? On the back of a scooter. Next time you're in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, sign up for one with Saigon Street Eats.

The food enthusiast tour group offers a variety of tours, but I jumped on their Street Food 101 led by fearless and fun tour guide Binh Nguyen. The other tour members and I were the backseat Bettys to our scooter-riding guides as they drove us around District 3, in a neighborhood called Chung Cu Nguyen Thien Thuat.

Our stops:

1) Bánh Xèo Nga for bánh xèo - Vietnamese pancake and hot vit lon.

2) Bánh Mì Tám Ba for bánh mì.

3) Ốc Loan for seafood and shellfish:
Sò điệp nướng mỡ hành – Grilled scallops topped with green onion and peanuts
Nghêu hấp xả – Steamed clams with lemongrass
Ốc tỏi xào bơ – Fried conch with butter, garlic and chili
Càng ghẹ rang muối ớt – Oil-less stir-fried crab legs with salt and chili

4) Bò Lá Lốt Cô Liêng for Bò lá lốt - Grilled ground beef with betel leaves.

5) Sinh Tố 142 for dessert
Rambutan + longan.
Smoothies.
Ice cream.

You can sign up for a tour at saigonstreeteats.com. The Street Eat 101 tour is about $45 a person or $65 with the craft beer package. There is a scaredy-cat edition via car instead of scooter for $10 extra. But with all that Saigon traffic, two-wheeling is the way to go!
