LOGIC PRO X - Pultec EQ Effect
This episode is dedicated to a production staple - the Pultec Low End EQ Trick. The EQP-1 EQ, from Pulse Technologies (or PulTec) for short, released in 1951, offered a unique and seemingly contradictory parameter set. At the same frequency, it provided both Boost and Attentuation dials, the idea being that having selected the frequency you wanted to pump up or drop down in volume, you could choose the relevant dial. After all, why would you do both at once? Well, it didn't take long for creative producers to ask that question by trying it out. What they discovered changed the course of recorded music history. Because the EQP-1 actually offers its Boost and Attenuation options at slightly different frequencies, meaning that the curves produced by boosting and cutting at the same time don't cancel each other out, but instead offer a chance to completely reshape the low end and low mid-range of your mix. Logic's Vintage EQ Collection featrues a Tube EQ, and this is Apple's take on this classic plug-in. As Jono will show, It's capable of something impressive things.
