This week, I’m returning to the theme of creating mix space within a track by shining a light on the ‘engine room’ of the mix; the low mid range. Occupying frequencies between around 130 and 300Hz,

it’s actually quite hard to find a sound which doesn’t offer activity in this frequency area. The bottom end of snares, the thump of Kick Drums, low pads, pianos, guitars, vocals even… this is a frequency area which it’s extremely easy to over-populate with content, without really meaning to. I’m going to break down a basic Electro track and scoop unneeded low mid content from some sounds, to carve out space in this area for sounds which really need it.
